By registering a utility model the proprietor obtains the exclusive right to commercially exploit an invention for as long as 10 years. The exclusive right implies that it is possible to prevent others from capitalizing on the protected product. This applies to producing, trading, or importing the product with the intention of selling it.
A utility model may be registered for inventions that provide a solution to a technical problem. Methods and business operations cannot be protected according to the existing legislation on utility models.
